Request for Refund
« on: March 10, 2014, 10:07:03 am »

I purchased the JRiver Media Center 19 for a friend recently.
He tells me that he has visited the Interactive Forum and for 2 weeks tried to get the system up and running
His computer tech said that he computer - which is very old- does not have the capacity to run the system
He wants a refund- and prefers to us MS Media Center instead.

I am very happy with my JRIver Media Center 19 -however would like to receive a refund to purchase my friend a different give.

Can you please help me.  I called your headquarters and was instructed to use this communication tool to request the refund.

I'm not sure that JRiver offer refunds, as there is a 30-day trial for Media Center.

Could you try running Help > Benchmark and posting the results here? (the JRmark score at the end will do)

An old computer is not often a problem.  Posting details of the problem would help.

I am sorry to not provide the details of the problem, but the reality is that his mind is made up-  he does not wish to use the program......

I am disappointed at the news - but I would like a refund.

I tried to e mail the request for a refund, I tried to call your headquarters.  Seems like brick walls.

Please provide me with assistance.

PS the computer tech told me friend that his computer would not process the program properly- too little space.
I understand this is unusual, but it is an old machine

Because we offer a 30 day trial, we don't offer refunds.  I'd like to see if we can help you get it going.

Too little disk space?  Or memory?

What OS?

Can you tell me where the 30 day trial period was disclosed- I did not see any information referencing refunds or trail period.

http://www.jriver.com/download.html "You have 30 days to try the full feature set."

and

http://www.jriver.com/purchase.html "Once the trial version has been downloaded and installed, Media Center can be purchased from the Help section of the program. The price is $49.98."

So because I purchased the full system, instead of gifting a trial version, then SOL?

Apologies but I can't understand why you would instantly "gift" the application to someone with first vetting their system.

30 days is a long (and very generous) time to be completely sure it fits the bill.

If your goal is just to regift it elsewhere, I'm sure they CAN change the registration email address for you.

I don't think there is a deadline.  If you can get the person to whom you originally gave the license to help you out, you can do it yourself.  On this page:
https://rover.jriver.com/cgi-bin/restore.cgi

You can change the email address associated with the license.

Basically, you need to know the password and original email address used to register it.  If you don't know the password, the system can email it to you (or change it to a new random-generated one and email it, I'm not sure on the details here).  So, if the original giftee is willing to change it using the form (or give you the password) you can change it to your own address.  Then, you could re-gift it to someone else by generating a new password, and changing the email address to the one of the new giftee.

The 10-restores-per-year limit is designed to prevent this system from being used for fraud (where you continually move the licenses around amongst a group of people, for example), and I imagine if you do this over and over it might raise some kind of red flag.  But the license is certainly not lost forever if the original recipient really doesn't ever want to use it.

Someone from JRiver (I don't work for them) would have to comment if this would be considered legitimate or not.  But, if you honestly just gifted it to someone who really isn't going to use it, no matter what, then I'd think they'd be okay with this solution.
