Setup for Windows Home Network and NAS
« on: March 15, 2014, 04:50:39 pm »

I'm going to try resetting my installs, since I've been unsuccessful in properly getting my server and 2 clients setup  >:(

Everything is Win7, with an ethernet NAS. I created a "JRiver" folder on my NAS (peer to my music files). I have 3 subfolders under "JRiver", one for each: Server + 2 clients (so, "Study" = Server, "Den" = first client, and "Basement" = 2nd client).

In Tools, Options of MC19, I've set the File Locations to the NAS, to each of the individual subfolders. Is this right? Do they all need to be distinct? Trying to keep JRiver files OFF of any specific machine's hard drive.

THANKS!

It is generally not a good idea to place the Library on the NAS.  It should be on fast, local storage.

It is fine to place your music files on the NAS.

Designate one system as what you consider to be the Master.  Other systems will open the library read-only, or will use Library Server to connect.
