I have a MKV file, I want to convert it to MP4 for my tablet, the MKV has embedded subs, is it possible to let them be a part of the MP4? Or eventually exported as a separate srt-file? It seems like it is not done as of today (if my player is not screwing up), further, is there a way to choose aduio and/or video-track for the conversion?

I think you can only have one sub in the converted MP4 files as long as you select the sub before the conversion starts. Yes, most video converting software allow you to choose audio and subtitles. You ma want to try Freemake video converter, a freeware and works quite well. However, if you are dealing with the DRM protected video, you can try this DRMed video converter.

I was thinking of using the inbuilt conversion in J.river for the job.

If I have a MKV with subs that I want to watch on my tablet, I watch the MKV on my tablet.

What tablet are you using?
What app are you using to play video?

On my windows tablet I use JRiver.

On my android tablets I use MX player, and sometimes Mobo player.
Both have support for all subtitles I have ever tried.

I have never converted a video.

Its an android-tablet, MX-player supports subs, but the MKV-files are to big, so i convert them with MC, and i want the conversion to also be able to add the subtitles when you transfer the files to the tablet.

Gizmo will show subs if MC is configured to show subs for a video.  So play the video in MC and turn on subs, then stream to Gizmo.

Thanks for the tip, but I was thinking about the conversion function in MC, this is for when i am transferring files (with conversion) over to the tablet for travel. For instance on a noisy plane, subtitles are useful.
