MC 19 hanging then regular restart impossible
« on: March 23, 2014, 05:35:16 am »

Hello,

I have this problem and I have found no solution on forum.

MC 19 hangs almost daily, when the application is closed trough the Win message (close the application) it cannot restart. The the computer cannot be restarted regularly - when shutting down it hang at the shutting down screen so you have to reboot it phisically. I run a win 7, on a relatively new computer with very few programs installed. I tried to shut down my antivirus, but no effect. I attach a log for the MC folks. Can anybody help.

If it is the antivirus causing a problem, you may need to uninstall it.

Take a look in Task Manager to see what's still running.

MC can't prevent your machine from shutting down.  That's probably either Windows, a driver, or the hardware.

Please Read:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Media_Center_Troubleshooting_Guide

In particular, that sounds to me like a driver is crashing, probably the audio device driver.  You may also want to refer to the Audio and Drivers section of this:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_Solutions#Check_Your_Audio_Setup

This particular issue doesn't sound Anti-Virus related, but you never know.  I might check my Audio setup and Drivers first, then disks, then AV last.  Please note that powering off an in-use system as you've described can cause filesystem corruption (even if that wasn't the root cause of the crashes), so it is certainly worth troubleshooting your disks anyway.
