Further development of JRSS?
« on: March 23, 2014, 02:27:10 pm »

Hi everybody,

I use MC for my 7.1 home cinema, including 3 subs and full activated center/surrounds. Everything is set up with acourate convolving and works flawless!
I really like the surround field that is provided by JRSS!

But, as always  ::). I'm looking for further enhancements of my system. All speakers are selfbuilt with Visaton-chassis and I still have some chassis spare....

So, are there any plans for including a 3D-sound enhancer like Prologic 2z or DTS Neo-X?

Regards,

Thorsten

Or height channels in front. Seemed to be the best thing ever when receivers got it a couple of years ago.

I have a similar setup, and will soon have a couple of decent, very small speakers available.

Front height/presence speakers support would be cool :) Most of the recent amps support it.

Just to be clear, what I was thinking of was JRSS to do mixing similar to what newer receivers do. As an alternative to the ones (like me) that does not have a receiver between JRiver and the amps.

I'm in this boat too and would love high/wide support.

Yes, that's what I was thinking :) It was only for a comparison of something that is missing in MC compared to hardware.

Another request for JRSS, would be a 2.0/2.1 to 3.0/3.1 mode for fronts+center.

It would also be nice to get some technical details about what theory governs how JRSSS splits the signal and adds extra information, I understand that a complete rundown of the algorithm might be too much, but a general description of the principles used would be nice, so one can know if they are sound.

For a 2 channel setup, be great to have 'wide surround' effect processing on rear channel mixdown. Would give a phantom surround type effect on a 2 channel stereo.

+1 on this one, I am currently working with a 3.1 set-up and even If I ever set-up a 5.1 I would still love to have a phantom surround effect while watching content in my living room and not in the home cinema.

Try Effects > Surround Field in the DSP.

Try Effects > Surround Field in the DSP.

Would this affect front and centre channels? Keeping the front and centre channel tracks pure, and adding a wide phase type effect to only rear/side tracks would be more natural, would create the illusion of phantom rear/side on a 2 channel stereo system.

Back to this one with some news. 9.1 is coming :)

2L release (9.1 Auro-3D 96kHz/24bit ):
https://shop.klicktrack.com/2l/1001153

The technology:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auro_11.1

Again, it would be cool if JRiver could support 9.1 upmixing.
How does it upmix if I select 10 channels?

It upmixes to 7.1. The higher channel counts are used for active crossovers, extra subwoofers, extra side surrounds, etc.

For now, outputting more than 7.1 is possible using DSP Studio > Output Format > Channels and then using Parametric Equalizer to fill the additional channels.

Hi,
I already use 12ch Output for 3 dedicated Subs and active center. The mixing is done via convolving (txt-file) with a total of 18 steps ;)
It. is also possible to mix e.g. The Surround and backsuround in a dedicated Channel for filling between them in the Edge.

But, what I/we Need Are New Algorithm for the new setups. Hopefully they will be rather Soon available.
