A request for MPL files
« on: February 19, 2002, 12:29:26 pm »

Hi,
I use MPL for more than just playlists. I use it to save partial databases
with all the informations it contains including custom fields.
However MPL files currently don't save the YEAR and DATE fields. Would
it be possible to add those fields so that MPL truly save everything in the database ?

thanks

PS: I have posted a message five days ago with some thoughts on mpl files which attracted O replies. So I guess I'm the only one interested in this promising file format. Am I really ?

Just read the post you are referring to - and my thick head didn't get any wiser.
Apparently it is a Media Play List, but I still don't get it.

Do you know of a site that provide info for dummies about this format?

It's our own MJ playlist format.

It's got everything (minus playlists) about your files in it.  Sort of cool.

And it's XML which makes the buzzword department at Microsoft happy.

Xstatic,

Matt said it.

Actually mpl is more than just a playlist format. I use it because it saves all fields in the
database and it is importable, it's convenient to split a database and recreate an other.

Problem : I have 395 Rolling Stones songs out of 4818 in my main library, how do I create a special
'Rolling Stones' library and keep all the custom fields ? (splitting libraries)
Solution : Select all Rolling Stones songs, export them all to an mpl playlist name it stones.mpl
then create a blank library and import stones.mpl, that's it !!

To have a try : File/Export Playlist then select MPL Playlist
To import : Tools/Import Media then check the mpl box.

cheers
