duplicate track listings [Solved]
« on: March 27, 2014, 11:49:00 pm »

So I transferred my operating system to a new boot drive.

I 'copied' the entire previous boot drive's contents to the new drive.

Everything works, except that media center now has duplicate tracks (as in each track is now listed twice) showing in the player window when I play an album.

I ran into this problem before but reverted back to the original boot drive so I didn't 'solve' this problem.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Thanks   JJ

Delete the entries you don't want, such as those with invalid paths.

For all of my tracks, well 1/2 of them?

That's a whole bunch of work…
Is there no other way to clean up the database file structure?

You presumably have two sets of paths - one pointing to good, one pointing to non-existent files.  The non-existent files will all start with the same base path.  Type that base path into the Search box, and it will filter to only those entries with non-existent files.  Select those, and hit Delete and you're done.

KEWL!

I'll fuss with the knobs a bit and report back.

As far as I can tell the paths are identical.
When I use 'locate' on 'external disk', one listing sends me to the track, while the other pops up a error message.

As far as I can tell the only difference between these two sets of tracks is the last played date.

Is there a file in the library or elsewhere that I can delete and then rebuild the imported tracks database?

There should never be two paths exactly the same in MC.  Look carefully.  Show both paths here if you're not sure.

Ok so I so far can't find a way to copy and past the file path into an editor

Any hints?

Select the two lines, copy, and paste.  You'll get all the fields in the view.

I think I found the difference between the duplicate set of tracks.

Is the quick search function the one to use or is there a better search function to use?

Thanks JJ

Use either it or the Search Wizard, whichever is easier for you.

I went into 'Files' under 'Audio' and made the file path the primary display search variable.
Then deleted the improper tracks from there.

It seems to have done the trick.

I will re-start MC to see if the changes are 'permanent'.

Thanks JJ

EDIT:  That seems to have done the trick

Thanks again      JJ
