Exporting to Android
« on: April 13, 2014, 04:42:15 pm »

Hi,
I'd like to export some of my music library to my android phone. Could someone explain to me how I go about doing this please? I've seen bits of information dotted around but all assume important bits of knowledge about preceding steps that I don't have.

David

Plug it in and open Handhelds in the Action Window (lower left corner).  You can drag files to it.  You can set up an automatic sync.

Hi,
Thanks for that. I'll give it a go later:)

If I were to drag a playlist across to my phone how would that be handled by the phone? My (sketchy) understanding is that android doesn't do grouping and organizing of audio very well. Note that I'm using android 4.4.2 on my device.

It depends what music player you're using. There is a default Android library which is a bit limited (in particular, it doesn't know about Album Artist) but some players ignore it and create their own database.  Even the stock Google Play Music bypasses the Android library!

Using the Handheld Sync facility, you can specify that MC copies files over the default music folders in Android and also save playlists, and this happens automatically and the playlists will be visible on your Android music player (although I've found one music player that doesn't find exported playlists). I'm not sure what would happen if you use a drag 'n drop method, whether just the playlist is copied over, i.e. a list of files, or whether the files themselves are copied over and appear as individual files, or if the files are copied over AND a playlist of them is created.
