Sorting problem following a full re-import
« on: April 20, 2014, 08:17:24 am »

Hello,

After having a small problem on my hard drive, I decided to clear my library, and re-import all my music files.
But now, the "Imported Date" of my files is no longer meaningful, and I am not able to have a proper "Recent" view for my albums.

One solution would be to sort my albums by "Date Created" and not by "Date Imported", but it seems to be impossible.
I also tried the "Move/Copy fields" function, in order to copy the "Date Created" values into the "Date Imported" field, but this field is read only, so that's also impossible.

Can anyone suggest a way to solve this sorting problem ?

Thanks in advance,

Olivier

You can sort by any MC field.  If a sort does not exist, you might need to create a custom sort preset.

Where are you trying to sort?

Here are some related posts also, for later:

Ok, with your help, and the posts you mentioned, I understood how to do it  :D :

1) In a Standard Album view, click on the "Albums" tab, then "Sort by / Custom", delete the default value, then "Add / Z-A / Date created".

That does the trick for these "Standard" views.

2) Now, to do the same in Theater View, it is necessary to create a "Preset" with the above custom sort :

To do that, first use the above Standard view, click again on the "Albums" tab, then "Sort by / Custom / Preset" and give a name to this new custom sort.

Now, in "Tools / Options / Theater View", the "Sorting" list field will contain this new custom sort...

Quite powerful, indeed ! (But not so simple to figure out ...  ;D)

What was the problem with your hard drive?
It might be possible to restore a library backup and fix the problem, which would retain the original "date imported" values.
