Antivirus?

Are you running the latest MC?  19.0.135 is at the top of this board.

If not either of those, how were the files ripped?

I kept having this problem and I tried every known fix.  Majority of my movies are in Video_TS folder format, because it gives me the best picture quality.
The most common suggestion was convert my 1500 DVD's into MKV. I don't have that much time on my hands... Anyway, if you are using Media Network, then try JRemote.   Seems to fix the issue...

I believe there is a known issue (having something to do with Microsoft's DVD menu support) that causes Media Center to hang when playing from a Video_TS folder located on an external hard drive.  If that same folder is located on an internal hard drive there is no problem.

The DVD Navigator filter is full of stupid, and I think I (vaguely) remember something like that with external drives.

Hendrik can probably confirm.

Well, my drives are not external hard drives.  My server has an Acrea ARC-1882-ix-16 with SAS 6Gb/s drives.  RAID 6 Array.

I tested several different methods including OS changes etc.  Windows 2012 Server and Windows 7.  I have also tested with internal SSD drives as well.

My HTPC is full ATX, but I built it to run quiet.  Although, I didn't like the video quality from Ivy Bridge, so I switched to Nvidia 760 GTX.

My network is a Cisco Smart Switch (Small Business model), but it is mainly for my home automation setup.

My receiver is Denon AVR-53008, which has a Silicon Optix Realta HQV video processor chip to upconvert DVD to 1080p.

I tested all known posts on this problem, but I was about to give up.   Then I set up JRemote and it works fine now.  Bluray is a separate issue, but it is nice to have JRemote control all your media without switching libraries.

Assuming you are running the latest version, you might also want to try switching between Red October Standard and HQ to see if that helps, and toggling the hardware acceleration on/off.

The other common thread is DVD will not play nice from drives using "MS Storage Spaces"
