OK, I'll try again.  

I'm running 7.2.280 under XP.

When I merge Library A into Library B, the resulting (enlarged) library B always has a corrupted database, with all of the previous category information gone.  I do not want to just import the files from Library B because that way I lose all of the category information I so laboriously entered.  

Is it known that merging just doesn't work, or is it more likely that the problem is unique to my system?

If anyone knows how I can reliably merge libraries, I would appreciate the help.
