Am loving JRiver - have converted most of my CDs to flac and really enjoy the improvement in sound quality.  Thanks JRiver!

I do have an irritating problem.  Could someone please explain how to recover from the "black square" when I accidentally exit from theater view without stopping audio or video?

I am running a windows 7 HTPC with my TV in the living room as the second monitor via HMDI.  (HDMI to my Yamaha receiver to TV).  When I don't exit correctly then go to my PC there is a black square (rectangle) that covers the upper left area (obscuring the File/Edit/View menu area).

I manually go to the Theater View to exit to try to avoid this problem.  Sometimes I apparently have the TV or audio running when I exit and get the black square.  My only "fix" has been to reboot the computer.

Any explanation to clarify what I'm doing to cause the problem would be appreciated.  Even more so, suggestions to automate the exit to avoid the issue would be really really appreciated.  Especially if I could program that into the Harmony One that I use to control my entertainment center.

Any clues - even if not helpful with harmony one - would be appreciated.

Thanks!

That is probably a video driver problem.  You could try updating the driver.

Try switching to Theater View and back.  You can do this with F11 on a keyboard.

Thanks - I deleted my device driver and re-installed this morning.  I haven't seen it again - maybe that fixed it.

Quick question that probably isn't important - will setting the AMD HDMI Outp Properties - Advanced tab - to 24 bit 96000 HZ (Studio Quality) make a difference?  (It was set at CD quality.)  I do have some hi-def music.

Just curious - I changed the setting and didn't see any difference - even with the hi-def recordings.  I'm guessing that the setting doesn't impact the connection between JRiver and my receiver.  Care to explain it to a newbie?

FYI - have learned a lot these past two weeks.  It has been interesting.  It all started when my wife suddenly lost all hearing in her left ear.  All the mono ear buds I could find were of very poor quality and she loves music.  So I found a single in-ear-monitor (with 4 speakers in one ear) used by musicians who prefer to hear output in one ear and the audience with their free ear (venue ambiance).

Great improvement in quality but then she began complaining that she could hear the imperfections in the MP3 rips.  So I started re-ripping to flac - which led to me JRiver so I could easily stream the flac to the receiver.  (And to our potable Fiio X3 players which do a good job of playing flac).

Which led me to hi-def music and the challenge of understanding sampling, channels, bit depth, etc. - and discerning what is real and what is imagined.

I must say that you audiophiles live in your own world with its own language (and religions)!

Anyway - thanks - given the not-so-good circumstances, it has been an interesting and fun journey.

Just thought you might be interested in some of the unintended consequences  . . .

Keep up the good and useful work.
