Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone noticed the same.

I compared the playback between some movies and some concerts. All blurays, all set for 23 fps.
While movie playback is very smooth, the concerts playback is not such smooth, and it looks like something is wrong with fps. However changing fps from 23 to anything else usually make it worse.

I compared the movie "Fast and Furious" to the concert "Concert for George".

Any ideas, any config changes to try?

Concerts are often recorded as "video" content, which means they should be watched at 60 Hz. Without actually seeing the data, its all just a guess though.

Just tried to switch from my projector to PC display. It shows only 59 and 60 hz options.
In both cases the playback is terrible. In about a minute after picture is jumping all of the places ( full screen mode) the playback hangs.

Not that I need it, but out of curiosity, does it mean that there is no playback for PC monitor from bluray rips?
I am using anyDvd to rip my blurays.

I just tested a concert video and it works fine, but I have it set for 60 Hz.

Was it a projector or display monitor?

I have Mac mini, display port to vdi to monitor, and hdmi to projector.
For testing the monitor I unplugged hdmi from projector.

Bluray playback of any concert on either 59 or 60 hz is unbearable to watch.

What do I need to check?

If you are using a Mac shouldn't this be in the Mac thread? That changes the whole game....

I have Windows 8.1 on boot camp, Mac mini.

Since I have never owned an Apple product I won't be much help there.

I just installed win 8.1 on my older Asus laptop and it runs great. However, when I have any of the high contrast Windows desktop themes enabled I get some minor screen tearing (one line across the screen) watching ripped DVD's and BR's.... previously I thought this issue was related to vertical synch buffering(?) that is not defeatable in Win 8. The desktop theme must remain a Windows default (or modified) for correct video playback, at least on this older laptop. Using Windows 7, I had to enable any of the Aero themes.

Just reinstalled the mc. I think it helped with the projector playback for concerts.
The PC display still does not work, but I can live with that.

Are you using Red October Standard or HQ?
If you're using HQ, could you hit CTRL+J to display the stats and post a screenshot here?

I have a bunch of Music BD's and they are shot in 60 or 50i and if you are using ROHQ you will need a reasonable GPU eg at least a 660/760 GPU (my older 550Ti could just do 50i but still dropped frames on 60i) to play these back without dropping frames as they have to be both deinterlaced + 60 (or 50) frames processed.  You will also find the same issue with TV Shows.  Movies by comparison are only 24fps.

I attached the stats. One idea that I have is that my display is 1680 x 1050, this might be not viewed as a full screen mode for the software while the source is 1900 x 1080. Does it make sense?

While watching in this display (full screen) there are lot of dropped frames as you can see on the stats. And then it hangs in about a minute or two.

Have a read of 6233638 thread on madvr - especially this bit on Scaling Algorithms, as I think your GPU is just too weak with the std setting to pull off 60/50i.  On one of my Intel Integrated GPU I found Mitchell-Netravali was a good performing algorithm to use that looked good to my eyes.

What do I need to check?

A 70" TV.  My home theater pc is basically one that I built.  I didn't like the video quality through Ivy Bridge, so I have an Nvidia GTX 760 in that pc.  I use a passive power supply with the htpc. The video through Ivy bridge works fine, but it is not as sharp as the Nvidia GTX 760.  Then my Denon 5308 has a special video chip that converts the content to 1080p, regardless of the source.  The video that I watched last night was shot at 1080i, but with that receiver it does it for me. 

If the settings don't work, that the others suggested. I think it might be boot camp.  Boot camp runs like a virtual machine, but the better way is to make it dual boot.
