JRemote won't connect from hotel Wi-Fi

I live in the US and am currently on vacation in Canada.  Before I left on vacation, I confirmed that JRemote on my iPad could connect to the JRiver server at my house by disabling WiFi on my iPhone and iPad and then connecting my iPad to the Internet via my iPhone's cell data service.  That worked fine.

We've been staying at a different hotel most nights and I'm getting the same result everywhere.  When I try to connect, the connection fails.  If I select the detail, I see the following (I've blanked out my IP addresses, MAC addresses, and access codes for obvious reasons):

WOL sent to MAC-address 'xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx'

Connecting to saved addresses

Connecting to IP: 192.168.1.xxx Port: 52199

Timed out, The Task was canceled

Is this just a matter of the hotel internet connections being too slow, an issue of being in a different country, or something else?  I've got another app that's having the same problem, but a third app (the Ceton MyMedia Center app) that's working fine.

There isn't anything there that I haven't already covered.  As I said, I was able to get the connection working via my iPhone's data plan Internet connection while still in the US (my data plan won't work in Canada), so I know my router has the correct ports open / forwarded to connect from the outside.  It certainly isn't outside the realm of possibility that I've got something setup wrong at my house, but that seems unlikely given the test I ran before leaving for the trip.
