Can JRiver on a QNAP NAS
« on: July 03, 2014, 07:46:56 am »

Can JRiver be installed to run as a UPnP server on a QNAP NAS?

I ask this question because I'm looking for a UPnP server that I can install on a QNAP NAS that will be able to serve DSD64 and DSD128 files to a compatible renderer, like a Lumin S1.

There might be a remote chance *if* your NAS has a x86 compatible CPU.

I made an attempt on a Synology with an Atom CPU but so far I've not been succesful. Maybe this weekend I'll give it another go.

I tried installing the JRiver "exe" file and got a format error on my QNAP TS-879 Pro.  I would like this capability as well if JRiver is listening.

The view from some time ago:

I'm not aware of any comment from the Devs that varies from this outlook.

Porting MC to Linux immediately raises the thought of running it on a commercial NAS box. The take home message for me is, yep - possible - but don't hold your breath.

Installed MC21 on my QNAP, very disappointed to see "Theater View" is not available!
As the app is getting installed to HD Station, the "media server"  function is switching off once the app is closed (hence not really useful).

Normal view on HD Station is really trouble some to use & navigate.

Understandable as this is the first attempt, but need to enable "Theater View" to make the app useful.

There are several QNAP-sanctioned DLNA servers for their NAS-boxen.  Look at the QNAP support web site.

What is it about running MC native on a low-power storage-optimized system that you're looking for?

When will the QNAP TVS871 NAS be supported by JRiver as an app? I saw on the QNAP web-site that this is already supported by several QNAP NAS servers. The TVS871/TVS871T appear to be more than robust enough to run JRiver as an app with i7 Quad Core processor and 16 GB RAM.

The TVS871 shows that MC is a compatible app on the QNAP App Centre:

It works through HD Station. Check the tutorial on one of the associated links. You should be a shoe in.
