Minimize latency with loopback?
« on: July 27, 2014, 05:29:02 am »

What are the best ways to get the minimum possible latency for the live loopback function?

Set buffering to a small value in Options > Audio.

Set Options > Audio > Advanced > Live playback latency to a small value.

Thanks for the tip, although even with the latency set to "minimum", I would guess the latency to be around 1 second. Is this expected behavior?

That's definitely not normal; I get about 10 or 20 ms of delay typically. It sounds like you're getting 50 times that much. What kind of buffer settings are you using on your audio output device in JRiver?

I have done some research, set everything to min delay, turned off DSP and so on.

Seems like the offender is the JRSS upmixing (set to dolby digital), is there a way to solve this? Getting surround is one of the main reasons I use loopback in the first place.

Switch to not mixing to dolby digital as a test.  Is that fast?

Mixing to dolby digital will increase latency a little, because it's a blocked data format.
