[Feature Request] Gizmo connect to server using FQDN
« on: July 31, 2014, 04:43:31 am »

Hello,

Could you please make available "connect to server" using a hostname in Gizmo. I would like to connect to the server like this:

myserver.mydomain.tld:52199

At the moment it is possible using access key and IP address, but:

- my public IP address changes quite often
- connection using the access key does not work for me.

Thank you.

On our wiki there is a topic called Network Access.  It will explain what you need to do in order to access MC from outside your network.

You can currently use a machine name and port, as in your example.

The Access Key method will work, even if your address changes from time to time.  It updates itself periodically.

Thanks for the reply. However:

- I did not find any mention of how to connect using a hostname in the wiki topic you mentioned and gizmo throws an error when I try that.
- The server is normally off before I connect to it from Internet (I wake it up using WOL) so I am not sure how and when it updates the IP changes.
One thing is for sure, if I try to connect using the access key (after I wake the server up) it attempts to connect and after 5 retries shows an error (There was a problem connecting to the server...). Using IP:52199 works ok.

How long should I wait before the IP is updated?

This works for webgizmo. Seems like this should work. But it blocked because it's looking for an IP.

If you can't wait for them to change this.
You can use this, or other terminal apps.

WebGizmo works because it runs in browser.
I can find the public IP of my Internet host easily. That is not the issue.
The problem is I have to input it each time I want to connect after an the IP has changed.

Sorry, i started out with the wrong sentence.

It would be nice to have it work in gizmo.  I've wanted this at times myself.
