Spotify has over ten million subscribers. There's a (very good) plugin for Logitech Media Server. How about Spotify for JRiver?

Spotify's SDK does not allow it to be used with paid applications.

You can add Spotify (Web Player) in Standard View and as an external site in Theater View. It's not "perfect" but it works.

I was hoping for something at least as good as the iPeng/LMS implementation.

Logitech Media Server is free, so that's why it is integrated.
iPeng, however, does not appear to be free (if I'm looking at the right thing) which suggests that Spotify either don't care about this restriction, or they're small enough that they haven't noticed.
 
It would be nice if the JRiver team could try and get in touch with Spotify and see if there is a way for them to integrate it in the program - but again, I wouldn't keep your hopes up.
 
However, with the introduction of a WDM driver for Media Center, you would be able to use the Spotify player and send the audio through Media Center's DSP engine.
 
It's not the same thing as seamless integration, but it's something.

Some way of integrating Spotify and be able to use it with JRemote would be great! I would even pay for an additional license if necessary. (I don't know if Spotify Connect requires a license to implement)

I think we could circumvent the limitations if a user created the plugin. The main problem though, is that the creation of a Spotify integration in theater view for us normal users would be pretty tricky I think. An integration in Standard View should be much simpler, but less cool and useful imo.

If the plugin worked with other applications, they might be able to get away with it.

I think if the plugin was only good with MC, that Spotify Legal would take a dim view of that clear end-run around the rules.  Not to mention that developing such a thing would take time and effort, which could all be for naught if Spotify decides to revoke your API key for any reason.

So... I don't think it is likely at all, without a change in terms from Spotify (or them suddenly coming around and returning emails).

Again, though... If some user developed a plugin for MC, that would almost certainly be "legit" and allowed.

I just compiled and installed the Spotify plugin for Jamcast and got my local library showing up in JRiver MC using the Jamcast DLNA server as a source library.

As was just mentioned else where here, adding Jamcast dynamic playlist support over DLNA would address the Spotify issue and open up a whole pile of other possibilities through the Jamcast server.

Found another couple of work arounds that some might appreciate.

Bit perfect asio player for Spotify.
Hook it to the JRiver MC asio driver and bobs your uncle.

For remote control of Spotify using wasapi live loopback in JRiver MC.
Use the native Spotify App with remoteless to control Spotify from a mobile device and use the live loopback to play through JRiver DSP audio engine.
(Remoteless App for iPhone, android etc)

Grooveshark, Deezer, Pandora, Spotify and Airfoil....
Which means you can also use your phone/tablet to control them and do Wasapi live loopback in JRiver MC.
