19.0.160 (8/5/2014)

1. Changed: (again) the root window updating. Reverted somewhat to the previous behavior. Only the right side, bottom and bottom right corner work properly for resize.

19.0.156 (7/24/2014)

1. Fixed: One of the types of HTTP redirects was not being handled properly. This fixes troubles with some internet streams and one particular DLNA controller.
2. Fixed: The ALSA Buffer time and Period time parameters were not being used.
3. NEW: The ALSA output format can be fixed to a specific type (i.e. S32_LE) as well as auto detected (previous method).
4. Fixed: Window Size/Position issues in some dialogs (i.e. dsp studio sample rate selection).
5. NEW: Rudimentary portable drive (handheld) support (no autodetect).
6. Changed: Root window move/resize. Position/Size isn't updated until left mouse button is released. Prevents jumping, etc. This will likely change again...

19.0.152 (7/15/2014)

1. Fixed: Detection of mountpoints under /media and /mnt, treated as "drives"
2. NEW: Implemented the functions which allow "Rename, move and copy files" to work.
3. NEW: For deleting files from the library, moving to the recycle (Trash) bin implemented. Since this is desktop dependent you'll need to symlink ~/Trash to your desktop trash directory.

19.0.148 (7/3/2014)

1. Fixed: Multichannel mapping.

19.0.146 (6/26/2014)

2. Fixed: A memory leak from above.

19.0.134 (5/15/2014)

1. New: The font dialog is enabled (Options->Tree and View->Select Font). You can choose from the default Lucida, GNU Unifont and a user defined font string. The User Defined font string has to be acceptable to XLoadQueryFont. If the font isn't found, MC will fall back to Lucida and then Mutt-Clearlyu. The font height can also be trimmed manually. Height in pixels of trim.

1. Change: Reverted from requirement for dynamic ssl and crypto libs added inadvertently in 19.0.133

19.0.133 (5/9/2014)

1. Changed: The font loads orders of magnitude faster.
2. Fixed. The maximum size calculated for the font characters were not being calculated properly at load time resulting in imprecise placement of elements in the MC window.

19.0.129-3 (4/22/2014)

1. Changed: libcurl system shared lib dependencies reduced.
2. Fixed: Internet reader timeout.

19.0.129 (4/21/2014)

1. Changed: libcurl integrated into the JRReader. Greatly reduces dependencies and uses a newer version of libcurl. Needs testing to see if anything is missing and to check compatibility with distro's (unsupported) other than debian wheezy.
2. Changed: xz compression on the .deb greatly reduces download size.

19.0.128 (4/15/2014)

With this update, dialogs like Options, DSP Studio, and Analyze Audio are blank.

Others like Import, Registration Info, and About still draw content.

Do they fill in when you resize the window?  That's the behavior I'm seeing (blank until resized)

When I try to resize the window (lower right corner), the window gets white and Debian freezes. The cursor retains its shape from resizing. There is no action possible. The only way: Press the the reset button and restart Debian.
Resizing with the menu in the task-bar goes well. Moving the window with the title bar is also good.
MC forgets the settings in DSP Studio.
Mini View:
If the mini-view window is not moved,
MC goes back to the original size of the standard-view.
when I move the mini-view window - no matter where -, MC forgets the size of the standard window.

openSUSE Factory KDE4.13.80 Mesa 10.2.5 Kernel 3.16

THe sizing/moving is working well here.  The window does go white when resizing but at least you get the visual cue.  No problems with dialogs as mentioned above.  Maximize/minmize working fine.  Moving the window works as expected, with or without "Alt".

Tested briefly with the Plasma5 stuff, same results there, fwiw.

I can't duplicate the "white window" thing.
Can you try different skins? I use mostly noire and Z.
I checked this on 2 different debian systems with xfce and different video cards as well as a 64 bit ubuntu system with unity and the ID with fluxbox.
My DSP studio settings are retained as well (check the auto configure on playback failure setting?)
I'm also not seeing the mini view - standard view issue.
I double checked against MC on windows and it's not always predictable behavior as to positioning and size (sometimes goes to maximized) but the standard size view doesn't seem to change.
Geier22 the freezing is weird. I can't see how MC should be able to freeze your computer.
Maybe a binary or library got corrupted on install??

I think I found something that might help with repro of the white window:

Im using the default skin (noire), on arch linux with xfce4.10, but I'm using openbox for my window manager.  When I switch my window manager back to xfwm4, that resolves the white window issue, so it seems to be related to openbox.  That means the problem would likely affect LXDE too.

I'm not having any problems with DSP studio FWIW

The GPU lockup is bad. I assume that could cause the system to crash. I don't see how MC could lock up the GPU though. It's not even making use of the Direct Rendering interface.

« Reply #10 on: August 07, 2014, 02:46:55 pm »

I did some additional testing in re: white windows.  It seems to be exclusive to openbox.  I tested 1) XFCE without openbox, 2) XFCE with openbox, 3) Gnome 3, 4) LXDE (which uses openbox by default), and 5) openbox by itself.

2), 4), and 5) all had the white window problem.  1) and 3) worked as expected.  At first, I thought the issue might be related to desktop composition (openbox does not natively composite), but I installed a free-standing compositor (compton), and saw no change in behavior, so it may just be truly openbox-related.  Hope this helps narrow it down.

Also of note, when I ran the compositor in captive mode, starting JRiver threw a long series of errors, about twenty or thirty all in the same form :

[     8.42 ] error    3 BadWindow    request   15 minor    0 serial   5267: "BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)"
But I think that's unrelated to the white window issue since it throws them on startup and not when opening subwindows (which is when the white windows appear).

I have provoked this crash several times. MC was every time the only program that was running. It was noticeable even after I tried to change the window size and the window has been white - the HDD LED lit continuously.
It seems to be a bug in the nouveau driver. the Internet often reported on these error messages. it is strange that the error occurs only at MC. And even when the window is changed with the mouse pointer.

There is still an issue with changing the window size with the mouse pointer when you are in the left, top or upper left borders.
The right, bottom and lower right seem to work as expected.
What happens when you are in the  left, top or upper left borders is that there is way more redrawing than necessary going on and I'd guess that's triggering the bug in your nouveau driver.

Update:
(Nouveau - driver)
After a dist- upgrade, I installed 19.0.160 again.
Result: On the upper corners it is possible resizing the window. Moving the window with the tool-bar is also possible.
Lower corners -> no reaction.(cursor does not change)
all sides ----> no reaction (cursor does not change)

Then I installed the NVIDIA drivers 340.24

Whow !!  ;D 8) All corners (width and height) and the upper and lower sides can be used to resize the window. While resizing, the window gets white. When the action is finished, the window is immediately in the correct appearance. No black borders or similar.
