Asynchronous handling of network shares
« on: August 10, 2014, 10:21:30 pm »

Every time I open MC, the interface becomes unresponsive for something like 20 seconds... I am going to bet this is because MC is opening the network shares (where my library is stored) and starts scanning. Any chances the IO can be more asynchronous and never freeze the UI?

Erik.

Not sure I understand what you mean by asynchronous in this context, so maybe I'm missing something

The library loads before the interface, there shouldn't be any freezing of the UI. Sounds more like a hardware issue. There maybe a buffering lag before playback begins depending on your setups or spin-ups to your drives, but this shouldn't freeze anything.  What are you connecting to? NAS, USB external hard drive, client to server PC? Gigabyte network or slow?

Autoimport running in the background or your machine looking for upgrades might have something to do with it, but that would be linked to hardware or internet speed -- If you have memory playback option on, try turning it off to see if that makes a difference.

Wouldn't be surprised if JRiver is waiting for the NAS to spin up its disks.
A more async behavior would be handy indeed
