It isn't quite automatic yet. It requires a user selecting a menu option. Then the software is downloaded and installed and the machine is restarted.
The software is included. I don't know whether the updates will be free forever. For now, they are, and we have no plans to charge in the future.

It has a very quiet fan. It's inaudible from a few feet away.
It uses 7 watts during playback. It can be turned off with the button on top. In that mode, it uses 0.5 watts.

I was wondering whether it goes into power save mode after some time without activity?
Any info on the output and DAC?

I see an 1/8 inch analog output, but find nothing on the DAC.
