Atmos streams are not supported.

I guess we are talking about the new Transformers Age of Extinction release. It comes with an 7.1 TrueHD stream with embedded ATMOS data. I haven't tested this myself but "word on the street" is that the libav and therefor LAV Dolby TrueHD can't play this track at all. All that is possible is to play the secondary AC3 track.

When I say not supported, thats usually what it means: It doesn't work. :)

Makes sense :) What I meant to say was: Atmos comes embedded in the standard TrueHD stream of Blu-rays. Your statement that "Atmos streams are not supported" can be interpreted that the Atmos part is not supported  (which is obvious as that would require proper decoding - when I think about my "licensing" thread this will propably never happen). But the ugly thruth is that due to the embedded nature it breaks the lossless audio stream for such releases altogether and bombs us back to AC3 (although at 640kbps that's OK for most ears).

My question is:

Can we not even bitstream TrueHD files that have Atmos?

Not at this time, it will not even show you the TrueHD stream as a choice.
Should probably be possible to play both the TrueHD content and bitstream the entire thing over HDMI at some point in the future though.

Any idea when there is going to be a fix for this upstream, which will then get incorporated into LAV and JRiver?

The first disc using it won't be released until September 30th, it may be possible to fix it by then.

Thanks Hendrik. Wonder how many actual bluray players will have similar issues and need firmware updates even though bluray players that follow the bluray spec should just work....  guess we'll see in the coming weeks.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll be sure to buy the 3D version of the Atmos disks when possible, since I might have to use TMT 6, anyway. :)
