DVD-Audio and MC19
« on: September 01, 2014, 03:50:55 pm »

Hello all.

I've downloaded an iso image of an Hybrid DVD-A (Pink Floyd).
I have extracted the directory structure in a folder in MC.

It contains 2 folders, AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS
AUDIO_TS:
ATS_01_0.BUP
ATS_01_0.IFO
ATS_01_1.AOB
ATS_01_2.AOB
AUDIO_PP.IFO
AUDIO_SV.BUP
AUDIO_SV.IFO
AUDIO_SV.VOB
AUDIO_TS.BUP
AUDIO_TS.IFO
AUDIO_TS.VOB

VIDEO_TS:
VIDEO_TS folder is a normal DVD folder, with BUP, IFO and VOB, recognized / playable by MC. It contains the DD 4.1 and DTS 4.1 versions of the album.

However MC cannot recognize the contents of AUDIO_TS folder, being (i guess) the MLP 4.1 Surround version of the album (at 96/24).

On the DVD's back cover:

AUDIO TRACKS   //   SAMPLE RATE/BIT DEPTH   //   COMPATIBILITY
===================================================
Advanced Resolution MLP 4.1 Surround  //  96/24  // DVD Audio Players
DTS 4.1 Surround   //  48/24   //  DVD Audio and DVD Video Players
Dolpby Digital 4.1 Surround   //  49/24   //  DVD Audio and DVD Video Players

Any ideas?

I extract the DVD-A audio stream, to flac, using DVD Audio Extractor (http://www.dvdae.com/).

I'm not sure that any media player recognizes the contents.
DVD Audio Extractor does support AUDIO_TS folders and can convert the audio to your format of choice.
The only audio you should need is the MLP. It even gives you the option to convert to 2 channel.

FYI there is a DVD Audio plugin for Foobar2000 that is free, which I use to convert my DVD-A discs to FLAC.

Hello again.
As per your answers above, have converted the MLP portion to 5-channel flac files.

In MC19, while trying to play these flac, i receive the following error:

===
Playback could not be started at 96Khz 24bits 5 channels.
This format could work: 96Khz, 24 bits, 2 channels.
Do you want DSP studio to automatically..... etc.
===

I can't see a reason for this. The PC is connected via HDMi to a Denon AV Amp, with 7.1 channels.
Immediately afterwards, have tried MC19 with various DVDs (files) with DD5.1, DTS 5.1 and also mkv files with DTS-HD Master. All played as usually, displaying the respective sound format on the Denon.

Am I missing something?

There was an issue earlier this year about playback of 5 channel files (it's apparently an odd format).  Check out this thread
