Does MC19 allow a portable install on a non-removable drive?
« on: September 07, 2014, 08:12:25 pm »

E.g. an internal drive rather than an external USB drive.

Thanks.

Yes, but you must install full version on the pc first.

See this post, a bit old but still relevant.

Thanks, but I don't see confirmation that portable install works on internal drive. Should I?

Can you claify your:

Yes, but you must install full version on the pc first.

considering that the proposed portable installation is "on the PC".

The wiki has a topic.

You must install MC and license it first.  Then, from that machine, you can do a portable install of MC on any drive.

There is no such thing as a portable install without having done an ordinary install.

The wiki has a topic.

Sure. But if you can show one that actually answers the question, I'd be really grateful.

http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Portable_Drive_Installation is not that.

You must install MC and license it first.

Then, from that machine, you can do a portable install of MC on any drive.

Any drive? Including an internal drive?

I've never tried doing a second install on the same machine.  Why would you do that?

Thanks. If anyone knows whether portable install works on an internal drive, I'd love to hear.

Why would you do that?

Separate settings.

Why?  Maybe there is another solution.  MC19 and MC20 would work.

I don't think it will work.

Why?

So that changes to the settings for one project do not carry to the settings for other projects.

MC19 and MC20 would work.

Differently.

I don't think it will work.

Thanks.

Try using different libraries.

Try using different libraries.

Eh, why?? App settings are not stored in the library.

Please start a new thread with a good description of what you're trying to do.  There may be a better way.

Portable Install is not meant for this purpose.
