If you need to understand more about what a limiter does browse through these

I've read them, and none of them specifically mention "subwoofer limiter".  Since it's offered as a distinct option, I wanted to know exactly what it was doing.

the subwoofer limiter only has limiting (or boosting) without indicating a frequency cutoff. If you understand the links I posted, the last one that Matt posted explains it (thanks Matt/Mojave missed that).

Glad i ran into this thread.

I am rebuilding my stereo system, and wish to integrate my two bagend subwoofers with my Tannoy TD10 speakers.
The Bagend system has a crossover called an ELF1, and this does a kind of linkwitz transform, with added protection so when the level increases, at very low frequency, the speakers do not destroy themselves.

I would love to be able to replicate this within PEQ, as the processor kills the transparency of the system. The question is, can it actually be done?

For a better explanation of the problem, i have attached a link to a PDF that explains the problem from a 'Bagend' perspective.

I realise that i should have maybe started a new thread, but i hope one of the experts (Matt, Mojave, Hulk, Lion or anyone else for that matter) can advise.

Thanks

Might want to ask Mwillems  -- this is right up his alley.

I played around with the Subwoofer Limiter settings... I couldn't see/hear any effect.

I think I'll end up with a few saved Presets using the parametric equalizer lowering the low bass maybe around 30-40hz and just apply them as I find tracks that need the bass limited.

Some tracks just have too much bass which makes me concerned for my subs, and rattles the springs in my windows.

Looking at this guide it looks like the ELF1 is quite a bit more complicated than just a linkwitz transform and a limiter.  I think it would be beyond my abilities to figure out how to replicate it exactly without having one to measure (and maybe not even then), but if you have some measuring equipment on hand, I'd suggest opening up another thread over in the speaker/DAC subforum.

No promises, but I/we may be able to get you on the right track to settings that would approximate the ELF1 if you can provide actual measurements of the sub with and without the processor (and some tech data on the sub itself, such as power handling, xmax, etc.).
