Changes to FileAssociations.xml
« on: September 11, 2014, 04:59:39 am »

Hi Guys,

A few months ago I started a thread about 3D MKV extension .mk3d (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=87530.0) and the wonderful Hendrik added this to JRiver. Several months later I asked if the .mk3d filetype could be split into it's own type so I could associate it with a third party player (Stereoscopic Player) yet still have JRiver handle MKV. Unfortunately this never happened so I have manually edited the FileAssociations.xml file to suit my needs. Everything is working great however every time JRiver updates to a new build then FileAssociations.xml is overwritten and .mk3d becomes part of the .mkv filetype and this in turn breaks my playback of 3D content.

Is there a way JRiver could implement the .mk3d file type as a separate selection or prevent the FileAssociations.xml file being overwritten each time I update.

Thanks,

John

here is how you can prevent mc from overwriting the fileassociations when updating:
one thing you could do:
in your mc installation you fin a folder called default resources, in this folder you find a file called FileAssociations.
now start with making a new folder beside the default recource folder called 'Custom Resources'  ;) and copy the FileAssociations file into that folder. this is important because the custom resource folder is not overwritten with a new instal, and mc first looks if the custom recource folder excists.
now open the fileassociation file with notepad. at the top you find something that starts with <data> you find office docs there and you can add file types. or even categories.
after saving the changes, close mc for the types to show in the options, go to the options to make shure they are there and enabled.

 :)

Next build:
Changed: Separated the mk3d and mkv file types so special handling can be given to the 3d type.

From What I learnet months ago, here is what I got:

eComics (cbr,cbz)
ebooks  (Irl,epub, mobi)
type  could be Data
We were supposed  to add this file types to Data Section in the fileAssociations.xml where you have msoffice, doc, docx csv ppt etc.

I did , but never let me save the  edited version, so I just gave up.

Thanks.
