How do i remove wmp9
« on: February 15, 2003, 11:43:22 am »

?
I have MJ8. I down loaded wmp9  :'(and now i can not burn anything, because in the process, up pops an error message.
It also interferes with play back.  I see that this problem is also happening for others.
I have checked and fround no uninstall nor does it appear on the list XP provides in its add/remove programe.
It appears to be embeded into XP.
I have started up in safe mode and deleted the WMP file(The only way i have found that i can remove it so far). The folder remains(empty). Yet the interferes continues.

If it is WMP9 interfering, its like a dam virus i can do with out.

(This has the smell of mircosofts internet explorer attempt at web browser domination a couple or so years ago).

See if you can install the WMP off of the original XP system disk. I've also posted a few times (so do a forum search on xp burning) on how to turn off XP's built-in burning software.

I don't get the option to install or uninstall. (Xp on this computer is preinstalled). My guess is that if i did a system recovery it might revert back to WMP8/7?

About burning. Its an error related to licensing of the track. This all started happening when i updated WMP. And that is where i think the problem lies.

It should of came with a system disk (though relabeled as Dell or whatever)

> ....system recovery

You could do that, but it may roll completely back...then you'll have to re-install all your apps. WMP v7.1 is still available on the web (though not from MS). I don't know if it's compatible with XP. Do you know anybody that has a stock (MS) XP disk? Problem there will be with the product licensing crap that comes with XP.

Yes it is.

To get rid of it:
Restore.

Start/accessories/ sys. tools/ sys. restore.

restore to a point in time befor WMP9.

Note:
If restore is on for all your hard drives, you might lose some data.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the tips

For the record.
I recovered XP in  non-destructive setting.  This pushed me back to the orginal settings whilist keeping my files.
I tried using restore but it had the odd effect of not allowing me to be able to set up an internet connection.

I haven't checked yet but i imagine that i will have to down load a number of hours in up dates etc, but worth it i feel.  As i now do not appear to be getting any error messages relating to licensing.

And burning is sweet.

Beware of windows media player9!!!

Its been aloooong day but its a goog felling to have MJ running as i should be - sweetly.

The lesson - all the glitters is not gold

Thankyou    xen-uno and Griff

I had different problems when I first installed wmp9 and wanted to get rid of it. I ran system restore and that did the job.

I have since redownloaded and reinstalled wmp9 a couple of times but the player is still a little quirky. There have been several improvements made and they (windows) keep working on it. Its become a viable player for me now.

Note: I'm really ticked that I can't seem to get any support from Windows on this (or anything else for that matter) ;)

when you installed it

it gave you 2 options.

1. install and save old version
2. install and do not save old version
on option two it also said you can not uninstall media player 9 if you do not save the files.

if you did not save the old version then you must reinstall windows again.

or you can buy MC9 and it will work.

Only the last couple of builds of MC work with WMP9.  I think 115 and 116 do, but they both have problems that  we hope the next build will fix.

builds MC 9.0.112 and newer should work, thats when WMP9 support was added

MC 9.0.115 and newer will need to download the WMP9 files when a user attempts to play windows media files.

Thanks for the updates guys

I think i'll wait a little before upgrading to wmp9.

MJ8 is doing everything  i need it to do for me at this time. So i'll wait a little while here also before upgrading.

? A Question. Can i keep using MJ8 while upgrading one side of its abilities in the new greneration of MJ. Or does upgrading require both aspects of MJ9. This might be an
obvious question. I'll go and check out MJ9's profile.

Thanks again for all the help.

I am sure MJ9 will replace MJ8

If you are doing any encoding do in the new encoding that comes with the new WMP9, the new encoding is really good.

I don't use windows media files myself.

maybe when bill gates is the U.S.A. dictator
