For the meantime... That DLL is available
everywhere. The Internet does not forget so easily, so I doubt there is any serious concern anytime soon. But, of course, I too was excited when I saw that post from Hendrik.
(Note, if you didn't catch it, Hendrik is the developer of LAV in question, so he was goading himself.)
I didn't see the news about ArcSoft and TMT. Wow. That's really too bad. There's probably a bunch of developers and other employees looking for work right now. That's sad for them and their families. It does certainly indicate that Jim and Matt might just know what they're doing with regards to
not going the licensed route. There's only one left standing (and not the best one, IMHO). That cost, and the restrictions, had to be a
giant weight around their necks.
On the other hand...
Matt and Jim? There might be some developers out there with deep experience in multimedia playback software looking for a contract gig right now. Just saying, if Hendrik is too busy and you could just get the guy (or gal) who
wrote dtsdecoderdll.dll. Or, you want to actually do 3D? Or support menus? Well, then, it might let Hendrik work harder on that video engine.
