MC20, I've got no volume (solved)
« on: October 02, 2014, 07:58:38 pm »

Was using MC18 and downloaded MC20 on a CAPs server. Exclusively audio. Had all working including JRemote on iPad, then unexpectedly nothing. I can see song progress and level meters working on both server and remote, but no sound...it's as if system is muted.

I've changed output mode

rebooted

reinstalled

Done all I can think of

USB ports appear to be functional

Works fine on my desktop computer

Ideas anyone?

Check the Windows mixer volume settings.

Power everything down and back up.

Check the Windows mixer volume settings.

Power everything down and back up.

Hadn't thought of the Windows mixer, but all were @100%. Systems been rebooted probably 2 dozen times since last night.

I also tried alternate usb ports but no joy there.

FWIW, when this originally happened, I was using JRemote on iPad. Seemed almost spontaneous, but hard to be sure now.

Are you sure MC itself isn't muted?  Check under the little volume icon in the upper-left corner.

Also, are you sure the amp didn't blow or something?  Can you get it to make any kind of noise at all with other sources?  Also, can you get that same USB DAC to work at all with other applications (your old install of MC18, for example)?

Assuming the answer to the above is "yes" (the USB DAC works with other applications, and the amp isn't blown or broken) then, follow:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Audio_Troubleshooting_Guide

In particular, step through this first:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Audio_Setup

But then if it isn't resolved, refer to the other instructions in that Troubleshooting Guide.

Double and triple checked the mute function...good there.

DAC is fuctional via same input but different source. Also getting test tone via windows "test" function. I deleted MC18 once I had 20 working...perhaps prematurely...

I'll check out links, thanks.

Thanks for help. I had wrong audio device selected. What's weird is I swear it worked for a time under Direct Sound, I wasn't accessing anything in JRiver at time of failure, but rather using JRemote.

No matter though, I learn (or re-learn) something every time I do this. Music's on, I'm happy.

My audio stopped working last night. I went to Tools>Options>Audio Device, and found the device had changed to "Headphones (High definition) [WASAPI]. I've never even seen this as a choice. So I changed it back to "Samsung (High definition) [WASAPI]", the monitor/speakers I use, and all is working again.
It's just weird that it would change by itself.
