Radio station / Hiwire
« on: January 31, 2002, 01:45:19 pm »

Hi,
Hiwire is a system used for Internet radio that blocks out the ads - will this work with MJ V.8? It seems to use Windows Media Player as the playback mechanism.

I'm particularly interested www.kufx.com

Thanks,
John

Gatobrit,
Doesn't that hurt?
I don't have an answer to your question so I thought i would do a little experimenting. I clicked on your link and downloaded their player. I didn't get too far because this is a GREAT radio station and I don't want to turn it off. When I do (they're doing traffic right now so I wavering ... wait, back to The Who so I'm stuck. I only have a 56k modem and have gotten no "buffer silences" like with other stations I have tried even when I continue to surf. Did I mention that this is a GREAT radio station?
Anyway, I noticed that after I installed their player and I opened MJ, the file association for MP3 and WAV was unchecked. SO whenever I get bored with listening, I intend to shut the player down and restart again (I re-established MJ's file associations) and see if it will default to MJ being as it seems to be in MP3 format. The reason I think this might happen is that if you go to Winamp and start one of their stations (after disabling all file types in Winamp), you go immediately to MJ to listen. I checked "Always take control of file types". We shall see someday.

Apparently all the cool do-dis's that you could do in Interact don't work for some reason.
Like do-dis would get bold and do-dis [img=] would get a picture. Oh well, please see these things in your mind as you see the codes.

Charlemagne 8,
Yes, I think it's a great radio station but my absolute favorite is between 6am / 10am  PST when Greg Khin is on. He just cracks me up. :-)

I don't have Winamp so I can't test your theory.

Anyway, support in MJ would be most excellent...

Gatobrit,
Sorry, didn't work. Still a good station.

Didn't Greg Kihn have a band a few years ago with a hit song or two?

Gatobrit,

It does not look like we will be able to play HiWire streams. I visited their web site and did not find any information about the stream type.

One thing I don't understand is why they have Windows Media Player logo on their page. My guess is that they just forgot to change it since they switched to Hiwire player.

Contact them and ask to use WMA or RA or MP3.

Nikolay - will do.

C8 - yes he did. A couple of hits (Jepoardy, The Breakup Song etc.) and then nothing. He's now a DJ and successful author. Anyway, he's always a crackup.

Nikolay,
I went to the Hiwire web site and posted a tech support question. According to their Tech Support is uses a Windows Media Stream - what kind of information do you need in order to access this?

If you let me know I'll ask their Tech Support folks - they appear pretty responsive.

Thanks,
John
