WDM Driver stopping Live TV Playback
« on: October 20, 2014, 01:17:55 pm »

I haven't loaded my normal library since RMAF and am just using a single zone. This is probably how most people use JRiver. Last night my son started to watch the Sunday night NFL game using JRiver. He paused the game and left for a while. He came back and the game was off. This happened 3 times before he asked me to help him. I found out that my wife had left a website open with a video playing. The sound wasn't loud enough to hear, but was triggering the WDM driver. This stopped the live TV playback.

I often pause live playback, go to ESPN to check other scores, and continue the time shifted live playback. ESPN often has videos playing that would stop the live playback.

Perhaps if there is live TV playback, activation of the WDM driver should switch the live playback to recorded TV.

Well it's normal that using the WDM driver will take over playback.  You can setup a ZoneSwitch rule to route to a new zone if that's a problem.

Initially, when the WDM driver was first beta tested, blending was used until I requested no blending.  :) For the average user, perhaps blending would be better. As it is now, even windows sounds, e-mail alerts, etc. will stop playback.

In my normal setup, WDM is routed to a separate zone.

I'm not seeing that; when I have something already playing the WDM doesn't interrupt it even when WDM isn't redirected to another zone.

Could it be that the WDM overrides paused playback but not active playback (because that would be more consistent with what we're both seeing)?  If that's the case it might be as simple as making the driver distinguish between pause and stop.
