Not sorting by Track # when auto-imported
« on: October 24, 2014, 04:32:11 pm »

So, I am ripping a bunch of my CDs.

It seems that even though the view is set to sort by Track #, it is sorting by Name. I know it I go back and forth it eventually corrects, but I'm never sure the steps to make this happen, and it should really sort by Track in the first place.

Any suggestions?

You appear to be sorting by name there. The header is marked with ↑1

But why would that be the default when the sort is supposed to be by track #?

That's what I get when I first open it. No column clicking or anything.

It seems to be the default even though Track is selected as the sort (unless I am not understanding how this view is set up)

Here's a better image.

It shows that is should sort by Track but is sorting by name.

It can sometimes be complicated to figure out why views are being displayed a certain way.
Did you just make that change, or was it already set to Track #? Because changes made there will not apply until the view refreshes.

Does clicking the Track # header sort things correctly?

The view in the last attachment is as-is. That is, no changes and the default is Track #. I pressed and clicked nothing, except for selecting the newly imported album from the top pane to show the details in the bottom.

If I click the Track # heading then it does display correctly.

I'm just perplexed as to why it would default to a Name sorting when Track is the default.

Probably the way your view is set up (or not set-up) ... check out customize view by right-clicking,  then click set rules for file display. Set up modifiers using sort rules in the order you want them. (Album would normally come before track number)  Does this fix what you want?

It's already set to order by Track #. That's the weird thing: it indicates that it should order by Track #.

If I do nothing, back out to an Artist View, click some other Artist, and click through to one of their albums, it shows in Track Order.

If I then go back to the one that didn't show properly, it will now show properly.

Refreshing the view doesn't help.

This seems pretty reproducible too.

What you show in your screen shot is not what I referred to (see attached as an example). As I can neither see the rules you set for the view, nor can I see the result as it is hidden by our screen shot of the group sort.

As said above Name is your primary sort, look at the column header.
