JTS transfer only with convert
« on: October 29, 2014, 07:19:21 pm »

I've been experimenting with methods to move recorded television from my desktop to my laptop for travel.

Using the sync to handheld transfer I can move recordings that were made in ts format - no problem.

Recordings that were made in the jts format only transfer a very small file with the jtv extension - I can't see that these *.jtv files do anything.  No content is transferred.

I can transfer files recorded with jts selected so long as I use the convert function.  I don't convert I just get the small jtv file.

I understand that I can copy the jts files/file folder over and the recording will run on the laptop but I'm curious - is the transfer of files recorded in jts format just not a current feature (or have I missed something).

That is not the correct behavior, likely a bug.  When transfer to a "device", we should convert, instead of just copying the jtv file alone.

Not sure what you mean "When transfer to a "device" we should convert" ?

Since I'm running JRiver on the laptop I don't understand the need to convert to another format.  I thought it would just transfer the entire folder containing all the jts files.  Unless I wanted to convert.

Could you please explain?

Thanks.

I am not sure.  If we transfer to a device, like a hand-held device, there would be issues of the format not being supported by the device.  So I thought maybe we always transcode in that case.

Right - then you would need to tell JRiver what file types the handheld supports - at least I think it works that way for audio.

Guess it just hadn't occurred to the development team that someone might use that function to go to a "handheld" laptop running JRiver.

I can see that it wouldn't be a priority since you can just copy the folder over.

Thanks anyway - just trying to "grok" the program.
