Hi folks,

I recently purchased an Ifi dac and am now trying to convert some SACD iso files. When converting to dsd, JRiver gives me the option of 1x or 2x dsd and I am not sure which one to choose. The sacd's themselves do not mention which dsd level it was recorded in. I would appreciate any advice on how to further proceed. Thanks in advance!

SACD is always 1xDSD.
However you do not want to convert to DSD, you want to bitstream it.

Thank you for the reply. I would like to convert the iso into individual files for tagging purposes. In jriver, when I go to 'Convert Format' and then DSD, I can choose between DSD (64f/2.8 MHz) and Double DSD. When and why would I select the double DSD option?

Media Center has no problem tagging the tracks in an SACD ISO as-is.
Conversion inside Media Center is a lossy process, since it has to go through a PCM stage.
 
The only other way to end up with individual tracks that can store tags is to first extract the tracks to DFF files, and then convert those DFF files to DSF, stripping out the DST compression and doubling their file size.
 
Not worth it, in my opinion.

thanks again. according to JRiver, encoding is done to a DSF file. Besides tagging, I also want to be able to load individual files onto a PMP in the near future. Not sure what the double DSD does though...

Yes, but this is a conversion.
 
It is not extracting the DSD information from the ISO files to a DFF/DSF track.
 
You need to use other tools for that, and the current tools require you to create DFF tracks (which can't store tags) that must be converted to DSF tracks. (which store tags, but do not support DST compression, doubling their size)

It will convert to a 2xDSD file instead of a 1xDSD file.
None of the conversion options in Media Center are native DSD, they go through a PCM processing stage because the conversion tool is intended to convert PCM to DSD, not extracting tracks from ISO files.
