I had been ripping successfully in V7.2 using the CDRW, until I installed a DVD ROM. Now I cant rip from either drive.

I get different error messages depending on drive I try to use:

From DVD ROM:  "Open Drive Failed - Failed to Find CD in Drive."
  followed by   "Read Track Failed - Failed to Find CD in Drive."

From CDRW:     "Open Drive Failed - Parameter out of Range."
  followed by   "Read Track Failed - Drive is not open"

These messages come up for each and every track to be copied

MJ is still able to retrieve data from CDDB.

I tried ripping with Adaptec Easy CD creator and had no problems (but adaptec doesn't retrieve data from CDDB)

The CDRW is an ACER CRW6432 and the DVD ROM is an LG DRD8160B.
Both are connected to the secondary IDE connector.


Can anyone help??

Just to Update, I think I've solved my problem.


It seems MJ doesn't like the 2 drives attached to the same IDE connector.

I previously had the Hard Disk on the Primary IDE, and the CDRW & DVD ROM on the Secondary IDE.

A little bit of pull & swap later, and I have the Hard Disk & DVD ROM on the Primary IDE, and the CDRW on the Secondary IDE.

MJ works again.

I know there are others out there with this problem because I have seen it posted a few times, but with no replies.

Maybe this bug is not too difficult to fix.

HELP, I suffer exactly the same problem since my recent DVD-Rom upgrade. But, unfortunately, I cannot change my IDE chain with DVD|PLS|CDW connected as master/slave on the same IDE. This config has worked before with CD|PLS|CDW, and it goes on working with other software than MJ.
I would appreciate, if JRiver tell me clearly 'we are fighting the bug' or 'no way to solve'. I write this because I´ve realized the problem was posted before w/o reply.
Or does it work with V8? I registered V6, and I am not shure if I have to repay for V8?

A version 6 license will not work with version 8.  A new purchase is required.
