Sort order: recent - messed up
« on: November 23, 2014, 11:51:34 am »

Hi

First time here, although have been using MC for years (since about v 12 or so).  Great product, does all it says on the tin with huge finesse and more.

That is the love ...   :D

Small, tiny problem crept up last day or so, after auto install of ver 20.50.0.41.

My normal 'view' is audio > recent albums.

However, since ver .41 this view all messed up.  Looks like MC does an auto import again and 'recent' now makes no sense.

To try rectify things I created a new blank library and then restored a 3 day old backup. Everything fine with 'recent albums' correct.  However after a short while the 'recent albums' become all messed up again.  The setting under 'albums, sort by' is correctly set to 'date imported'.

Any ideas?

Whilst posting I have a question somewhat related to the above.

Is there a way of sorting albums based on the 'folder creation date'.  Folder creation date is roughly equivalent to the import date in my case.

thanks
Edward

Something must be causing the files to reimport.  Disable auto-import as a test.

Do you use CUE files?  There was a recent change that will cause them to reimport.  You can read more in the CUE thread.

I can confirm that this is also broken for me as well.

Since the last update (20.0.41) when selecting Audio/Recent Albums (which I use a lot BTW) is not working.
I've not changed any previous settings and have not attempted to "fix" it - as it's not my doing.  ;)

Suggestions?

No, I don't "use" .cue files - although I do create them when ripping. So, I do have a .cue in the same folder as my .flac's.
But I do not use .cue for sorting or playing.

I'll also note: I have checked my "modified date" in windows explorer - and the files that were imported 2 years ago & are now near the top of my "recent albums" have NOT been modified.
So, I'm seeing albums imported from years ago next to albums imported a week ago. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for the sorting that I can tell.

Do you plan to revert back to the way it was?

Have you changed the paths (or drives) without moving them through JRiver?  Autoimport can unfortunately treat them as new files, and its one of the few fields you cannot modify (modified date, creation date have nothing to do with date imported)

How is your recent albums view configured? on date imported?  something like this  if you hit the import/export button?

Code: [Select]
[Date Imported]=<30d [Media Type]=[Audio] ~sort=[Album Artist],[Album],[Disc #],[Track #]
if you are not using cue files, might be a good idea to check you haven't been importing them, if so reconfigure autoimport or turn it off to check like Matt said.

if it is indeed linked to cue files, which it might not be, just restore once again the library AFTER you have checked your autoimport settings.

Thanks Matt

I'm the OP for this thread and I'm still rather confused.

I have read your 'cue thread' and get that you changed the logic of cue file handling.  I have many cue files in my music file structure (~620) and this, based on your cue file thread, may well be the problem.

However I don't really get what I should do to remedy the problem. Do I bulk delete of all cue files (using windows tools) or do I delete cue files from the MC database (how would I do that?) or do I simply stop cue files being auto-imported?

After, once again clearing out a library and restoring from a backup (ensuring that auto-import is not enabled) then things are fine.  However, obviously without auto-import, new albums will not be imported.  So I disabled cue file import in auto-import (Tools: Options: Library & folders: Configure Auto-Import: [path]/music: edit: Audio : cue files: untick) and then renabled auto-import.  Sadly the 'recent album' view got all messed up again.

Then I had a look to see if I could bulk rename all (~620) cue files in their individual folders using Windows tools but could not find an easy way.

In your 'cue files thread' mention is made of using a smart-list within MC to find all cue files.  However I'm not clear on what parameters I would use in a new Smart-list (I'm familiar with smart-lists btw). And then what would I do with the results of such a smart list.

So basically I'm stuck and no obvious way forward.

I'm reluctant to simply do a bulk delete of all cue files in case I break something. For example I believe in some cases MC needs the cue file to provide track info on ISO files I have.

As mentioned I *love* JRiver MC and have done for years, this is the first stone I have encountered on the MC road.

By the way, do you have any suggestions as to how I would create an album view based on the creation date of the folder the album resides in?

cheers
Edward
