Native DSD now possible in Linux
« on: November 24, 2014, 04:10:40 pm »

It seems that now native DSD (non DoP, up to DSD512) is possible on linux, see
https://github.com/lintweaker/xmos-native-dsd
The official support will come with alsa 1.0.29 and kernel 3.18 only for some XMOS dacs like IFI nano/micro iDSD
I have compiled alsa-git and the last realtime kernel with the new patches and all is working (with a special version of mpd called mpd-dsd)

I hope that there will be support for this in the future. Also, I would like to have at least 4xDSD (as in the Window version) as a choice in output format.
Remember that now there is a new popular DAC, the iFi iDSD micro, than can reproduce up to 768 kHz in PCM and up to DSD512 in native bitstreaming.
