How to make an exception to ignoring Articles
« on: November 25, 2014, 10:39:21 am »

I have set options to ignore articles and am happy with the sorting.

However, I have an album called "A Luaka Bop" and for this one I do NOT want the article ignored. That is, it should be sorted under "A" not "L".

Is there a way to make an exception to the Ignore Articles selection on a case-by-case basis?

Instead of typing a regular space character between A Luaka you could try typing a non breaking space character...

Unicode provides for nonbreaking spaces, which show up as a space but don't allow splitting up the words on each side of the non-breaking space. (Or more accurately, I suppose, instructs the rendering application to not split it up.)

I don't know if or how MC supports Unicode or only ASCII. ASCII does not have non-breaking spaces. However, since MC does have multi-langugage support, maybe unicode is supported. I'll have to try a non-breaking space tonight and see what happens. Here's a link to non-breaking spaces. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-breaking_space

OK, I tried the two non-breaking spaces mentioned in the wikipedia article.

Alt+0+1+6+0 did not work. The two words collapsed into one.
Alt+0+2+5+5 did work. It displayed as a y with an umlaut over it in the tag window.

But it doesn't show in the main display window and sorts in the A's which is good.

However it displays at the end of the A's instead of at the beginning.

So, it's better but not as good as having a way to override the "Ignore Articles" option for this one Artist.

Any other thoughts?

Update:
Alt+0+1+6+0 worked really well. It sorts and appears correctly. (I think it might have had Num Lock off when I first tried it).

Would use again.

I think it would be useful for the Wiki. I don't have those permissions, but would write up something (it's probably only a few sentences at most), if someone wants to submit it.
