Seems to be just me, but this build (183 through to 196) will not play in a proxied/ firewalled environment.

"Cannot Create Media Jukebox Playback Control"

Done all the usual - un-install, clean registry, re-install, re-download and re-install - no go.

Direct Sound or Wave Mapper - doesn't matter.

All previous builds have been fine.

Win98SE.

Anybody got any clues?

you have to install over a previous version, ie 7.2 without removing 7.2 on the install.
their are lots of threads on this, some mention that the best configuration is a 8.180 installed on a previous version of 8. I installed the current avail 8 (180) over 7.2 and it got rid of the playback error but I had other soundcard problems and enough misc problems to want to return to 7.2.

All previous builds (and I have used them all) have been fine.
BTW the current is 183 - 180, the previous build, was (as above) fine.

Well, problem your end. Problem not my end.

Uninstalled everything.
Installed V7.  No Problem, plays fine.

Uninstalled everything.
Installed 80180. No Problem, plays fine.

Uninstalled everything.
Installed 80183. "Cannot Create Media Jukebox Playback Control"

Uninstalled everything.
Installed 80180. "Cannot Create Media Jukebox Playback Control"

Uninstalled everything - and deleted C:\Windows\System\MJReader.dll
Installed 80180. No Problem, plays fine.

Uninstalled everything - and deleted C:\Windows\System\MJReader.dll
Installed 80185. "Cannot Create Media Jukebox Playback Control"

Uninstalled everything - and deleted C:\Windows\System\MJReader.dll
Installed 80180.  No Problem, plays fine.

Left 80180 installed.
Installed 80185. "Cannot Create Media Jukebox Playback Control"
Deleted C:\Windows\System\MJReader.dll.
Then at startup, MJ message - "Failed to install plugin" OK?  (no it's not ^*!#^*&% OK)
(If you recall some ongoing problem with proxies is preventing access to all plugins.  See thread failed to connect to server)

Uninstalled everything
Installed 80180.  No Problem, plays fine.

From 80183 on, I seem to be able to do most other stuff except play music.
So, that puts me out of the Beta testing loop.
Please let me know when I can begin using (and testing) my registered product again.

I know from off-line communications that they're fiddling with the MJReader.dll (I had been blocked from streaming since I moved from 7x to 8x). I believe they installed a new version in either .185 or .188. Wonder if they solved one problem and in the process created another? I haven't had any issues with the new flavor.

If you install the latest build, then feed MJPlayer.dll (in your MJ directory) to this program: http://dependencywalker.com/  does everything look alright? (missing stuff will be red or something similar)

Matt - thanks for talking to me!  I was starting to feel like some kinda leper.
Some good news, sort of.
Since 80183 I have not been able to play files at work.
All versions of MJ 7 and MJ8 up to 80180 are able to play muscic.  Threw a couple of lunch hours at establishing that!
Since those versions would not play at work, I wasn't brave enough to install at home - until today.

I have since allocated some time to install at home and clean-up to a previous build if necessary.
I have found that at home, in a proxy/firewall free environment, builds after 80180 install and play fine.

This almost certainly relates to the proxy regime in place at work under which, if you recall, no plug-ins, homepages or internet activity whatsoever is possible from within MJ. See the thread "Failed to Connect to Server" which outlines difficulties for which no resolution was ever achieved.

So what changed about versions 80183 and on which required internet access at some point of installation?
There are a few licenses at work that are looking less & less likely to be renewed, and surely our proxy setup is not unique in the world.  I have had to seriously curtail my previously widespread recommendations of MJ.

It's tomorrow (saturday) here and a long weekend (Australia Day) so I won't get a chance to run the DependencyWalker until Tuesday, but will do so then.

To reiterate, at work with proxy/firewall of some Novell sort:
- all versions of MJ7 are able play files and access and install plugins,
- no versions of MJ8 are able to access web based views or install any plugins,
- no versions beyond 80180 are able to play music.

I had the same problem that you're having. Tried all the same things. My wife was in a hurry to make some MP3 Cds, so I installed MMJB to do so. Then I uninastlled MMJB and re-tried the latest MJ beta--and now it works fine (except I can't install the MP3 plugin, but I use ape files so that's OK for awhile). I know that it must be a coincidence, but since you've tried every thing else . . .

New builds shouldn't need the internet.  Maybe your browser or server is being "smart" and feeding you old versions of MediaJukebox8.exe (this happens a lot)

As for proxies, please be patient.  All of the internet code in MJ8 has been written in house from the ground up -- but we're still in beta and some problems exist.

Everything is fine outside of the wokplace.
In fact, at home MJ80189 seems as solid and reliable as any beta I've ever known.

Hence, the problem cannot be solved through exploration of dependency, so I won't bother with dependencywalker, eh?
