Saving column headers and sequence
« on: January 03, 2015, 08:41:56 am »

Hi.
I have recently created a new pane view, which I have called "Klassisk" ("Classical"). I'm not quite sure, but the sequence of the column headers seem to have changed since I first created them. Some even seem to have disappeared while I have been using other views from the left hand tree.
How do I save my previous setting, without it being influenced (or influencing) other views?

I just changed column displayed in a test panes view.  The changes were still in place when I clicked on another view and then came back to the test view and when I exited MC and came back later.  I use Version 20.0.17; it is possible that the current version behaves differently.

You can save column layouts as a preset and then reload them should something inadvertently change them.

Right click on any column title and select Presets->Save

If preferred, you can disable the auto-saving behavior of clicks on the List Column Headers:

Tools > Options > Tree & View > Sorting > Save changes on list header clicks

With this disabled, you can resort a View by clicking on the column headers, but this change will only be temporary, and then it will always revert to the saved setup when you navigate away from and back to the View (or otherwise refresh it).  With it enabled, when you click on the column headers to resort a view, these changes get saved when you close the view.

I keep it disabled on my setup, and explicitly define sorting.

Kinda a big holiday, you know.   ::)

I've been away and in lurk-only mode for two or three weeks now (and only just now back today).

A very good advice! I must admit it's been years since I realized MC was getting a bit too big and with too many features and possibilities for me to keep up with, and this is yet another example of how deep some of its secrets are buried. This support group is a total must for me, and I appreciate every bit of effort its citizens on different levels are willing to apply. Thanks to you all!

Very sad.
One of the two most helpful persons on these forums is retreating, too, after Mr.C has left us.

Where shall we get competent answers for our problems now?

Thank you and Mr.C for your great support here!

I'm not going anywhere.  Just been busy.

I don't know what is up with MrC.  I've confirmed relatively recently that he's alive and well, and that's about all I know.  That does make me quite sad, and confused.

But, in any case, I'm still around.  The time from mid-November through the end of the year is always hard for me, as is September through mid-October.

I didn't know that. It makes me happy and confused. Happy that he is well. I was beginning to fear the worst.
