Author Topic: Can't Play Any Tracks (including 2-channel) of Multichannel SACD ISOs  (Read 3128 times)

Just downloaded and installed JRiver on my Mac and it is working great playing back many of my SACD ISO files. But any that have multichannel tracks in addition to the two-channel tracks give me a "Something went wrong with playback" message. The files will buffer for a bit, then appear to start playing before crapping out.

Any suggestions? I've searched all over but have not see any solutions posted.

Thanks.

In DSP Studio > Output Format, pick 2 channels.  That will allow JRSS to downmix for your device.

I wonder if the device could be failing to play 96kHz?  What if you set the sample rate to 44,100 in DSP Studio > Output Format?

I've tried that as well.

Boy, that's really a mystery.  The format should be exactly the same as an audio CD (which I assume works) if you set those options in DSP Studio.

I've used MC on Mac since v19 to play SACD files (as 96k via DSP Studio). I had to revert to 20.057 to get it working again.

+1.

I used to be able to play both 2ch and mch tracks of a mch SACD .iso on a MacBook Pro running jriver 19 and earlier versions of 20 (for Mac, of course). The output was configured as a hi-res (usually 88.2 KHz) 5.1 channel signal via HDMI to my multichannel processor, which reported correct sampling freq and channel number.

NOW, after I experimented for a while with a mch USB Dac and JRiver, i abandoned it in favor of a Marantz AV8801 processor (again, from MBP via HDMI), and cannot get the mch versions of .iso tracks to play in any kind of PCM format. Exactly like the original poster, I get a long period of "buffering", and then "something went wrong with playback" message. Of note, stereo SACD-derived .iso files play just fine, and for the most part 2ch versions of tracks from mch .iso files also play fine.

Please advise, as the loss of ability to play mch .iso files in JRiver 20 is majorly screwing up my attempted transition to file-based playback. And yes, I know mch .dsf files can be extracted but I have a rather large sacd collection that I ripped to .iso and cannot see going through the time and space waste of .dsf extraction.

The latest MC cannot play SACD images anymore, 20.0.57 or earlier can play 2ch SACD.
I've tried all newer versions after 0.57 without any success with Ayre QB-9 dsd.

It's working fine here.

I wonder, could your DSP Studio settings be off?  Try setting it to 2 channels and 44,100 Hz.

There will be a new build 20.0.64 shortly to fix this.  Sorry for the trouble.
