Implement CDDB2 type genre system for YADB
« on: October 07, 2003, 03:34:53 pm »

I admire J River for taking the initiative in creating YADB, but sometimes I miss some CDDB features. One of those is the detailed genre system that goes Genre, Metagenre, Subgenre (or maybe I am reversing those). It would be nice to see this implemented in the the YADB and also become part of the MC metatag without me having to make it as a special tag.

Another quick question, if someone made a free, non commercial CDDB plug in compatible with MC9, would J River still have to pay a licensing fee?

Thanks,

the CDDB issue is a dead subject.

I do have a working (Sort Of Working) CDDB plug-in using my License with CDDB.

however there is no easy\clean way of pushing this info into the current cd data using the MC9 SDK.

About the Genres You can create another field in MC9 (Genre2) and save any extra genre info in there, that can also be saved into the media id3 tags

I figured that the CDDB thing was dead on the J River side (and I don't blame them concerning the licensing models available, yech!).

Though, I would like to see some of the same power of the CDDB in the YADB.

But for now, I'll stick to my custom meta tags.
