16 bit and 24 bit Issue in Windows 8.1
« on: February 07, 2015, 01:46:39 pm »

Hey all,

I have a bit of a problem and I don't even know where to start.  I'm running Windows 8.1, my sound playback device is an Avid Mbox (USB connected device).  I'm having an issue with sound just quitting on me.  I've found that when I go into advanced properties for the playback device the setting has been changed from 16 bit to 24 bit, when it's 24 bit no sound comes out anywhere.

I change it back to 16 bit, hit apply and ok, and try again, nothing, I go back into the advanced settings and it is still saying 24 bit.  I'm not sure why Windows seems to be switching me to 24 bit and not letting me change it back.

So, I was running Media Center 19, I decided to upgrade to 20 since it can be used as a playback device, and it worked for awhile but now I'm having the same issues, even though the JRiver Media Center options stays at 16 bit.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Sounds like it's disconnecting, and resets to 16-bit when the connection is restored.
Have you tried another USB cable?
