I am trying to install JRiver V70 under Linux, a freshly installed light Debian version.

The application installer, as well as the package installer, generate an error because the file architecture I386 is incorrect. I have the same issue with version 66.

I am sorry that this may be a very basic question, but it is the first time in my life I am installing JRiver in Debian. I am more used to Windows and MacOS.

It's giving you that error because you're trying to install 32-bit packages (like MediaCenter) on a 64-bit operating system (I'm assuming you installed 64-bit Debian?)  This thread has instructions: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=85957.0

You might have an easier time installing Mint or Ubuntu for a first Linux install, basic Debian can be hard for newcomers to Linux.  Both OS'es are based on Debian, so they should work well, and there are good step by step installation steps at the top of the board.

I have a mousewheel with "inertia" for lack of a better word, and if I scroll to the bottom of a short list quickly, the UI will hang, seemingly until it stops processing the remaining "scroll" actions.

Since I did my duty and filed a bug report, I'm going to also ask another question/favor: any chance of an APT repository being created for Media Center? Would definitely make the update process smoother.

The apt approach is a little too limited for our idea of how updates should be done in general (because we like to have beta/latest/stable channels) however since the linux community is pretty small compared to the Windows and Mac community for MC apt may be a way to distribute stable versions eventually.

As there is no advantage using JRiver in a 64bit OS it is easier to install the Debian 32bit version. Works out of the box for me every time.
I use the Debian XFCE version as it is smaller and low on resources.
