Dropouts, CD drive searching
« on: March 09, 2015, 02:02:15 pm »

Problem A: The cd drive turns over every 30 seconds as if it is searching for a CD. It is empty.

Problem B: Dropouts. Every song is dropping out at some point. Hardware: HP Pavilion g7 laptop, running Windows 8.1, Chrome browser, ripping files from CD's to WD My Passport external drive in flac. Playback is Laptop, external drive, JDS DAC, Lapai Amp, Speakers. The Dac is set in Windows at 44.1 kHz, 16 bit, the Media Center output/input are set the same. I can't play a solo electrified acoustic track without dropouts, this is not complex music.

I have resorted to leaving the CD drawer open so it doesn't continually search for a CD.

There was a problem with repeated/continous drive polling in a previous version. Are you running the latest version (.80 or higher)?

A is a problem that was fixed recently.  Please download 20.0.80 from the top of this board.

I have been running 20.0.80. (If you are going to edit my posts at least leave them making sense.)

Try increasing the audio device's buffer size if you are experiencing dropouts.

Tools>Options>AudioDevice> Prebuffering: 20 Seconds
So far so good, increased from 10 seconds, and the CD drive has stopped spinning its wheels, we'll see....
Now about that ad that blocks the link from the Home page to the Forum....

I'm not sure what you mean.

There is a link to the forum at the bottom of the home page at jriver.com.
