I have recently installed MC9 and everything I have tried so far has worked perfectly   until I tried to rip a CD - I get the error message "Open drive failed. Parameter is out of range"!
Ripping worked perfectly on the old MC that I had.  I have checked all the various settings and I have no idea what this message means. ?
Help - please!

This is a known problem with the Adaptec aspi installation program for aspi versions 4.7x. There is a registry key that needs to be created in order for CD drives to be accessed. MC has been modified in the latest 9.1 versions to create this registry key if it's missing. You could either upgrade to 9.1 or just add the registry key on your computer. Here is the key that needs to exist:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\APIX

Then you need to add a string value to that key called "ExcludeMiniports". The string value must be blank ("").

If you go the route of upgrading to 9.1, you need to run MC, reboot your computer, then run MC again and everything should work.

I tried installing 9.1 first as it seemed the easiest option but it did not cure the problem.  I managed to work out how to change the registry and installed the key all as instructed and now ripping is working!
