Apple moving MC to trash
« on: March 18, 2015, 10:21:03 pm »

Yesterday I installed 20.0.80 for Mac in a Mac Mini. It worked for a while, but when I checked back today it had disappeared. I called Apple and we found it had been moved to the trash. We reinstalled it. The same thing happened. Apple says the software is being moved to the trash because it is corrupted. How can we stabilize the Mac Mini installation?

It's possible they are using some kind of virus detector that is giving a false positive.

Running 10.10.2 here, and nothing is being sent to the trash unless I explicitly do so.  There is nothing special about a Mac Mini that would cause this and nothing in native OSX that would either.

Pardon the obvious question on my part. But did you try to re-download the latest version 20.80 and install it? Just to be sure. If you already have a copy in your downloaded file folder then downloads of the same filename will be re-named with a 1, 2 ,3 etc in the file name. So make sure you are reinstalling the correct copy.

I hope this helps.

Thank you all for the responses.

Jim H, Mac says they have no built-in anti-virus and I haven't installed one either.

BartMan01, do you have 10.10.2 on a Mac Mini (although that shouldn't make a difference)?

avpman, yes I used 80-2 after deleting both 64 and original 80 download. I just repeated the process to make sure. It didn't go to trash immediately and didn't go there after restarting the Mac either. We'll see how long it lasts.

Maybe I should start a new thread on this, but it might help you guys help me troubleshoot this problem. While I was able to import a music library, when I click on About to find my renderers (Olive o4HD and Bel Canto REFStream), none of them show up. I know my network is good because I also downloaded the PC version of MC20 in my laptop and it quickly finds the Olive and some Sonos pieces, but needs 2 or 3 restarts of MC20 to find the Bel Canto. A Mac-Centric friend thinks this indicates an incomplete installation of Mac MC20.

No, not a mac mini - but that would (should) not make a difference.

No issues here either with 10.10.2. Maybe you can try disabling Gatekeeper as a test, though that shouldn't be an issue anymore.

Thanks Awesome Donkey. I had already set Gatekeeper to allow apps to be downloaded from "Anywhere." If there are other places to do other settings or to turn off Gatekeeper, please advise. I am a newbie to both Mac (had my previous Apple desktop 20 years ago) and JRiver/JRemote.

JRiver still live on Mini (Perhaps it will last this time.), but not finding renderers on network.

I found renderers. Turned out I never completed Media Network setup because MC 20 kept getting dumped in the trash. I finished setup but can't play imported library files. See separate thread: MC 20 for Mac File Playback Problem.

I deleted that new post because I've solved the problem. While the Mini could import the files from my PC, it couldn't play them. I deleted that library and replaced it with the one in the NAS and the same files are playing just fine. MC 20 is still out of the trash so this thread may be over. Many thanks to all who responded!
