Problem with Norton
« on: March 18, 2015, 08:16:42 pm »

Norton didn't like jrweb.exe.  Flagged it as a high threat.  That's never happened before.  I've installed dozens of updates from version 19 through 20.

Thanks, Dale

I don't use Norton but the instructions for Symantec Endpoint Protection are probably very similar:

This.  Back when Peter Norton was actually involved, I swore by most of of the Norton products.  Then that company went downhill fast after Peter Norton sold it to Symantec.  There are much better products out there.

Even weirder for me.  Norton flagged the Chromium engine as a virus several versions ago and no matter what I try (disabling Norton &/or blocking it from scanning JRiver) I cannot get it to reappear.  Is there an install folder or separate (re)downloadable location for the chromium engine?
Thanks

Disabling AV programs often doesn't work.  Uninstalling may be necessary.

That has happened to me a few times with Norton and jrweb.exe. Reinstalling Media Center has always solved the problem for me. I chalk it up as a false positive on Norton's part.

Can you uninstall Norton now? I remember the good old days when I had to spend hours to remove the darn thing. I agree with the rest. Norton should never be used on computers, unless you want to do someone harm.

The best AV I have discovered is Eset.
light-footed with minimal false alerts, and near zero user effort involved.
I know others have their own favorites too, this is mine.
