[Solved] MC crashes with AverTv Volar Hd Pro on Windows 8.1
« on: March 19, 2015, 02:46:50 am »

I have the DVB-T usb tuner "AverTv Volar Hd Pro on Windows 8.1" from AverMedia.
TV works well with their own program, AverTV 3D.
But I use MC, it crashes when I select the usb device and click next.
What should I do?

Thanks for the logs.  Did the log package also contain a crash dump file?  If there is one, please email it to me.  yaobing at jriver dot com

Also, please download and install build 84, which is available on Media Center 20 board.  There have been quite some fixes between 80 and 84.

I emailed you the dump file.
And I have updated the program. The problem remains:MC crashes at the same point.

By the way, do I need to have Windows Media Player installed?
Currently it is not.

No, you do not need Windows Media Player.

Since you are running the latest version, I hope you do not mind grabbing a log package with the latest, and email to me again.  Sorry for the trouble.

The crash occurred when MC was trying to setup remote control devices.  Do you have any remote control receiver device on your computer?  What happens if you go to Tools > Options > Remote Control, and click "Devices & Options" link at the bottom of the page?

Thanks.
In fact, the service Remote control was disabled.
I have enabled it.
No remote control is set up.
However, I am away for the week-end, with my computer but not with AverTV device.
I will try Monday.

By the way, are there other services I need (besides television)?
So far, I have enabled only a few:

You enable features that you need.  If you are talking about what is needed for television to work, obviously, you need "TV", and possibly "Media Network" (It depends on what type of TV tuner you are using.  It may not be needed if you only use bda devices for DVB-T.), and possibly "Remote Control".

Don't disable anything until you have a solution to the current problem.

It now works.
It was crashing because the service "remote control" was not activated in MC.

By the way, the AverTv usb device comes with a remote control.
Do you know how I can use it to control TV on MC?

Thanks for helping with debugging it.  I will try making sure it does not crash when remote control is disabled.

We can not use remote controls that come with a specific tuner device.  Sorry.
