Play ALL PC sound to another MC Zone or DLNA Renderer
« on: January 05, 2015, 11:36:24 pm »

Hello,

Here is my configuration.

I have a single media server with 6 1010lt's to provide zoned audio throughout the house.
I have several mediaPC's around the house hooked to larger LCD's.  These rooms are also wired for 7.1 audio with homeruns to my server room, where independent Yamaha RX-A1000 receivers sit.

I run MC on the server for managing the zones and have MC on the clients (mediaPC's) as well.  I would like to redirect all audio to either the digital out zone from the 1010lt on the server (this is wired to each Yamaha receiver) or simply redirect to the yamaha through DLNA.

I would really like to use MC for all of this; though, I think that this might not be currently possible.  I tried installing the WDM driver and was hoping to set the proper remote zones corresponding to the server 1010lt digital outs as the defaults.  I couldn't find a way to do this.  I then tried to link the local (Player) to one of the remote zones from the server.  This did not work.  Lastly, I was hoping to redirect the current (Player) zone to a DLNA renderer.  This does not work either.

Do I have any options with MC to accomplish this.  I would ultimately like to do the same from some android clients to some MC room zones, so an option like dbPowerAmp,TunePlay, or StreamWhatYouHear may be my only options.

Thoughts?

Thanks so much in advance.

I am curious about this too: basically is there a way to grab audio using the WDM driver and output it to a remote zone over DLNA? Is this something that could be added in the future?

That should work.

True. Basically MC would have to server an "indefinite length" byte stream via a TCP socket in response to an HTTP GET request. You just have to keep in mind that an HTTP GET over TCP is not really designed to serve indefinite (infinite) length content, and you have to expect that sooner or later either the HTTP client or the HTTP server or the network will drop the TCP socket (in particular when working over wifi or WAN connections). And therefore one would have to give serious though about the mechanics of re-establishing a new HTTP GET TCP session in such a case. It is not a trivial problem, and it is not one that has really (yet) been addressed by the UPnP or DLNA communities.

Makes sense.

Are we any closer to being able to move audio derived from the WDM Driver (Tidal/Qobuz) from a running instance of JRiver over a local network to another running instance (Zone) like we can with local file derived audio? This would be great and with the rise of lossless streaming and mixed content playlists (local and streamed), this will be very much needed. I know that it is not easy but I was hoping that you are making progress.
